• October 14: Inaugural ABC Divers meeting
• October 25: First ABC dive at Round Island (ABC Divers was eventually absorbed into the South China Diving Club, the club still held its weekly meetings at ABC)

• Middle Island annex officially opened (clubhouse, bar, restaurant, storage, training facilities, extended pontoons)

• The Middle Island facilities were greatly expanded in 1997

• Joint dinghy races established with RHKYC
• ABC chartered Laissez Faire, a 55ft fiberglass junk with capacity of about 45, to replace both Corsair and the fast ferry for Sunday Middle Island service.
